Managing the Scientific Data Deluge
Frank Herold, Quantum
The GWDG is a corporate facility of the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft. It serves the purpose of a data processing and IT competence center for the Max Planck Institutes and a data processing service center for the University of Göttingen. GWDG collects, stores and archives very large volume of scientific data. As of today, over 4 petabytes of precious scientific data need to be readily accessible by the scientists as well as properly protected and preserved for many years to come at the best possible costs on the most relevant media i.e. disk, cloud and tape. Frank Herold from Quantum will show during the presentation how GWDG tackled these data management challenges.
