Dr. Ulrich Schwickerath

Project Manager, CERN, Switzerland

Dr. Ulrich Schwickerath is the project manager for the future batch virtualization and cloud services at CERN. He joined the CERN IT department in autumn 2005, and was, among other critical IT services for LHC, the main esponsible for the CERN batch services for several years. The team of people to which he belongs currently manages more than 20000 CPU cores in the CERN computer center.

Dr. Ulrich Schwickerath got his Ph-D in high energy physics from the University of Karlsruhe in 1999. His research got him involved with computing early on. After a research fellowship at CERN he joined the IT department of the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe in autumn 2002 to work on a research project on the optimization of data flow in clusters. In autumn 2005 he started his current position as a staff member at the CERN IT department. During the past years, Dr. Schwickerath was involved in almost all aspects of the delivery of computing services at large scale. Dr. Schwickerath has authored or co-authored about 30 publications.
