Hands-on Tutorial on "Introducing cfncluster: A Framework for Launching HPC Clusters in the AWS Cloud"

Presenter: Dougal Ballantyne, Amazon Web Services

This AWS-sponsored workshop will give you a thorough introduction to cfncluster, a framework for launching HPC clusters on AWS. Along with the intro, there will be walk-through of the core functionality and how and why specific AWS services are used. Learn not only the benefits of EC2 for cluster computing, but also many of the other services in our comprehensive platform that take advantage of automation, deployment, metrics, auto scaling, availability, and durability at scale.  This workshop will help new and existing customers understand how to leverage AWS services to build and deploy scalable and self-healing clusters for many types of workloads.

As the venue has a limited seating capacity, we kindly ask you to pre-register by e-mailing The pre-registration will be based on first come first served policy.

Panel Discussion with ISC Cloud'14 Sponsors

Moderator: Michael Feldman, Intersect360 Research

ISC Cloud’14 conference organizers and participants are grateful for the conference sponsors’ financial support and commitment. Therefore, this vendor panel is of mutual interest, both as a joint platform for the vendors to present short summaries of their actual HPC cloud offerings and customer case studies – and for interactively answering important questions from the audience.

This year we will host our attendees in the traditional and rustic Heidelberg brewery, Brauhaus Vetter, located in the heart of the old town. A fun-filled networking evening accompanied by delicious traditional German food and cold craft beer from the tap await you.

Panel: Independent Software Vendors Facing Clouds

Chair: Wolfgang Gentzsch, ISC Cloud'14 General Chair

Major concerns of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) when facing clouds are: how to add an on-demand component to their annual (or even perpetual) software licensing; shrinking revenue because of customers moving from long-term to on-demand licensing; and losing control when taking licensing to on-demand clouds; among others. In this panel, commercial ISVs discuss existing and cloud-based software licensing; cloud implementations; business challenges, solutions and opportunities; and customer benefits from cloud computing and on-demand usage models.
