Tutorials
The ISC’12 tutorials are half-day or full-day interactive courses focusing on key topics of high performance computing, networking and storage. Renowned experts in the field will give attendees a comprehensive introduction to the topic before taking a closer look at specific problems; they will incorporate hands-on components where appropriate.

Areas of Interest
Tutorials are intended to cover all areas of interest of ISC as listed on the Call for Papers. We encourage tutorials of broad applicability over those that focus solely on the research in a limited domain or a particular group.
Tutorials may focus entirely on theoretical aspects; however, we encourage organizers to incorporate hands-on sessions where appropriate. ISC will solely provide Internet access and rooms with standard presentation equipment. Hands-on tutorials must be prepared to rely on laptops brought by the participants.
Finally, we expect proposers to consider tutorials as educational events first, therefore they should plan to provide the attendees with a comprehensive introduction to the state-of-the-art in the tutorial’s topic before moving on to cover specific approaches in more depth.
ISC’12 Tutorials will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2012, and will either be half-day tutorials (9:00 am – 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm) or full-day tutorials (9:00 am – 6:00 pm).
Responsibilities
Tutorial organizers are responsible for submitting the material to be given to attendees (slide sets, additional teaching material, software installation and usage guides for practical hands-on sessions, etc.) to the Tutorial Chair. The ISC’12 conference organizers are responsible for providing publicity for the tutorials as part of the conference publicity activities, and on-site logistical support to the tutorial organizers and attendees.
Proposal Submission
Tutorial proposals need to be submitted as a single pdf file via the EasyChair conference system by Sunday, January 22, 2012.
1. A 200-word (maximum) abstract
2. A detailed description of the tutorial content (maximum 3 pages) containing:
- Overview and Goals of the tutorial (takeaways for the audience)
- Length of the tutorial (half-day (3.5 hours) or full-day (7 hours))
- Content level (split into: beginner, intermediate, advanced)
- Targeted audience (industry, academics, researchers, developers, system administrators)
- Audience prerequisites
- Detailed outline of the tutorial
3. 2-page CV for each presenter
4. A statement agreeing to release the notes to the ISC attendees (“The presenters agree to release the tutorial notes and other material to the ISC attendees.”)
NOTE: All documents need to be uploaded as a single PDF.
The ISC’12 Tutorials Committee will review all submissions, select the most popular topics and allocate their time slots. By submitting your proposal, you agree to:
- Conduct the tutorial session at ISC’12 in Hamburg, Germany.
- Release the slides, notes and other material associated with the tutorial to the ISC attendees.
Travel Funding
In general, ISC does not fund travel/accommodation costs or similar costs, but tutorial presenters from Academia may receive travel funding of up to 750 Euros per half-day tutorial or 1,500 Euros per full-day tutorial (the amount is meant for the whole team of presenters). To find out if you are eligible for funding, please contact us at the below e-mail address.
ISC'12 Tutorials Committee
From all tutorial proposals submitted, the Tutorials Committee selects the most popular topics to be presented at ISC.
