In front of the challenge of the new generation of computers composed of millions of heterogeneous cores which will provide Exaflop performances in 2020, the international community has launched various programs and organizations. In Europe the EU PRACE project is preparing at the infrastructure level the HPC tier-0. At the applications level, the European Exascale Software Initiative (EESI1) federated the European community, built a preliminary European cartography, and indications for a roadmap until 2020.
The new EESI2 initiative will be focus on dynamic and periodic strategic vision and Roadmap of efficient European Exascale software, with the best coupling of Architecture, Algorithm, and Application, based on expertise and recommendations in
- defining and following up concrete impacts of R&D projects and their maturity,
- detecting disruptive technologies in all scientific and engineering domains (Algebra, Mesh, coupling, multiscale, multi-physics, ...)
- addressing cross cutting issues in numerical processing and software engineering, in particular resilience and uncertainties
- addressing Data Management (processing, storage, ...)
- developing gap analysis methodology
towards Exascale roadmap implementation. |
