| Abstract: |
|
Looking at HPC from a European perspective may not seem to be much different from the view that other people have. However, with a number of HPC vendors that is significantly smaller than the number of HPC vendors in the US and Japan the perspective might be different. The lack of national security issues as well as the lack of a need to start large scale projects to subsidize national players has shaped a special environment in Europe that perhaps allows for a more relaxed and focused view of the Exascale barrier. The emphasis of this talk will be on issues that are often considered to be of secondary importance. What efforts are we willing to accept to reach an Exaflop system? How much are we willing to sacrifice to achieve this level of performance? Where are the applications today that require Exaflops? What are the most pressing questions when it comes to co-design? |
