There is a huge potential for HPC-based application services which today is largely undiscovered. Unleashing it will make significant contributions to our SMEs reinforcing their competitiveness in the 21st century: to provide innovative high quality products at competitive prices.
European actors must join forces to unleash this potential. This requires collaboration between many relevant actors such as the independent software vendors, HPC centres, specialised cloud providers, SMEs and their associations and multipliers, to name just some of them.
Through its policy initiatives on Cloud computing and on High Performance Computing, the EU is setting the political agenda. Through initiatives like the large scale pilot on HPC-cloud based simulation services for SMEs in manufacturing and engineering, the EU stimulates the build-up of a European ecosystem on HPC based services. |
