Clouds are all the rage, but are they ready to address the growing computing needs of Science? For the past two years, the Magellan Project, a joint effort between NERSC and the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility, has explored the potential role of clouds for science. This presentation will provide a brief summary of the project, some of the insights it has produced, and discuss some common myths about cloud computing. It will also examine some of the cases where clouds can be effective and what lessons HPC centers can learn for clouds. |
