HPC has played a very important role in Singapore research landscape over the last twenty years. The three major players in scientific arena are the National University of Singapore (NTU), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), with several other Universities, research Centres and Agencies involved intensely in focussed domain specific research. However, the country at present is still lacking a unified, long term HPC provisioning plan. In order to redress this lack, there is a strong, concerted initiative among players listed above, to create the National Supercomputer Centre. I will report on some of the ideas behind creation of the National Centre, will give a background of historical developments, current HPC research and existing facilities, and future outlook. |
