| Abstract: |
|
New manycore processors including latest GPUs, APUs and MIC give rise to another performance boost with promising results for dedicated kernels and additional benefits in terms of energyefficiency. But for large-scale simulations and complex codes there are still many open questions: How to keep on scaling up to thousands of fine-grained cores? How to balance tasks and loads on heterogeneous platforms? How to overcome productivity limitations? Which is the right swim lane to take towards exascale? This BoF identifies classes of applications in numerical simulation that are candidates for increasingly heterogeneous platforms. We discuss recent advances in the modern computing landscape and we outline perspectives and efforts in hardware-aware computing on hybrid platforms with focus on flexible software solutions and engineering of scalable numerical schemes. The link between modern numerical methods, recent approaches in HPC, and hardware-related constraints will be addressed. |
