The purpose of this BOF is to gather developers of parallel applications and developers of parallel programming tools for debugging and performance analysis. We want to demonstrate from the applications developers' point of view how (large-scale) applications can benefit from employing tools, e.g. Scalasca, Vampir, or MAQAO, to improve the quality, performance and overall development time of complex HPC codes. Results are reported from the European Exascale labs in Paris and in Jülich and from the European ITEA2 H4H project, where tools and industrial applications are ported and adapted to support heterogeneous architectures (including accelerators). The issues to be discussed during the proposed BOF are current and future activities in the tools' development, such as interoperability between tools to the point of an integrated tool chain, adaptation and enhancements to heterogeneous architectures and new programming models, scalability and power management issues and, last not least, further user requirements. Feedback from other ISC attendees, in particular from application developers, is highly welcome. |
