This year's Opening Session will be highly interesting and informative. In 165 minutes, the following topics will be covered:
- Welcome addresses and introductions to this year's and next year's ISC events by Rosemarie Mielke (University of Hamburg), Martin Meuer (Prometeus), and Hans Meuer (University of Mannheim & Prometeus);
- Short information on “European Policies for High Performance Computing” by Carl-Christian Buhr (European Commission);
- The awarding of the Gauss Award, the Prace Award and the TOP500 Awards for the #1 systems in different regions of the world by Michael Resch (HLRS Stuttgart), Richard Kenway (University of Edinburgh), Jack Dongarra (University of Tennessee & ORNL), Horst Simon (LBNL), and Hans Meuer (University of Mannheim & Prometeus);
- Presentation of the highlights of the 39th TOP500 List by Erich Strohmaier (LBNL);
- Presentation of the conference keynote talk on “HPC as Enabler for the Virtualization of Aircraft Development” by Guus Dekkers (Airbus & EADS).
