Welcome to ISC’13!
Dear ISC’13 Attendee,
Greetings, and welcome to ISC’s new “home” in the
remarkable city of Leipzig. Historically, Leipzig has been
a major exhibition and trading center and to go with that
theme, ISC’13 is introducing an “Industry Track” created
to help businesses – small and medium enterprises as
well as large companies remain competitive through the
deployment of HPC systems and applications.
Our host city also has a long history of attracting great and
worldwide renowned composers and writers, including
Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Goethe, Schiller and
others.
So, it is also fitting that the ISC’13 program includes a special session on Europe’s
Human Brain Project, a 10-year, 1.2 billion Euro program to use HPC to better
understand how we think and how to use that insight to improve our world.
This is a very fascinating project and I am sure the session on Tuesday will be
thoughtprovoking, to say the least. Of course, there will be many other interesting
sessions and this program is your guide to ISC’13.
Please also make time in your busy schedule to visit the 160 companies and research
organizations in the ISC’13 exhibition. Here you can learn about the latest systems
and services from vendors, and learn how researchers are using these tools to make
new discoveries.
And, of course, ISC offers great networking opportunities as you meet old friends
and are introduced to new colleagues. As usual, we have some very exciting social
events to help you relax and rekindle acquaintances from around the globe.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of our sponsors for their generous support that makes
it possible to present the 2013 International Supercomputing Conference.
Yours sincerely,
Hans Werner Meuer
