Technische Universität Dresden
The ZIH is the central scientific unit for al IT-related matters at TU Dresden. As competence centre for
parallel computing, we offer HPC resources to academic users and promote scientific computing.
Focused on parallel and data intensive computing, our major research topics are performance and
energy efficiency optimization of applications, scalable algorithms and methods.
Teradactyl develops the True incremental Backup System software for education, research, and HPC
centers. Teradactyl designs for scalable performance, specialized file systems, and environments
with little data commonality. New algorithms drastically reduce storage costs while delivering
extraordinary speed in the identification and transfer of new or changed data to centralized backup
The Portland Group
The Portland Group
) is a premier supplier of software compilers and development
tools for parallel and heterogeneous computing. PGI offers high performance Fortran, C and C++
compilers and tools for workstations, servers and clusters based on 64-bit x86(x64) processors
from Intel and AMD, and NVIDIA CUDA-enabled GPUs running under Linux, OS X and Windows
The Register is the one of the world’s biggest online tech publications, with more than seven million
unique users worldwide. Most Register readers are IT professionals − software engineers, database
administrators, sysadmins, networking managers and so on, all the way up to CIOs. The Register
covers the issues they face at work every day – in software, hardware, networking and IT security.
The Register is also known for its ”off-duty“ articles, on science, tech culture, and cult columnists
such a s BOFH and Verity Stob, which reflect our readers’ many personal interests.
Tokyo Institute of Technology
TSUBAME2.5 (Fall 2013) is the upgrade of the highly successful TSUBAME2.0, which became the 1st
Japanese Petascale supercomputer ranked #4 on the Top500 and #2 on the Green500 in Nov. 2010.
Dramatic performance improvement involves over 5 petaflops double precision and 15 petaflops
single precision peak performance, the latter becoming the fastest supercomputer in Japan, with
no increase in power.
The TOP500 project was started in 1993 to provide a reliable basis for tracking and detecting trends
in high-performance computing. Twice a year, a list of the sites operating the 500 most powerful
computer systems is assembled and released. The best performance on the Linpack benchmark
is used as performance measure for ranking the computer systems. The list contains a variety
of information including the system specifications and its major application areas. For more
