|Abstract:||Vendors have a continuous stream of products to support, so the question of how to achieve exascale computing and continue to support existing customers has an additional dimension. Software discussions on exascale have tended to focus on either evolutionary or revolutionary approaches.
There are significant challenges to achieving exascale that require revolutionary approaches, but as identified above, we need to find a path from here to there. This presentation will identify some of the challenges facing the HPC community from a software perspective including the realities of the application ecosystem that has been built up. The presentation will then suggest a plausible path forward that is neither solely evolutionary or solely revolutionary, but a combination. Examples will be presented to demonstrate how such a path might be achieved.
