|Abstract:||Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) today is a key process in industrial research and development. In manufacturing industries it is usually part of product lifecycle management. ICT support-concepts of external and internal service-providers must take into account, that this process is under customer control.
Starting with the process-landscape in engineering, we will present an architecture that covers all support layers from the infrastructure up to the customer-process. On the infrastructure level we will present a provisioning model, that integrates on-premise solutions with cloud-like models based on shared systems as well as the whole spectrum from throughput to capability computing. Also distributed data-management, remote access and networking will be discussed as key enabling technologies.
The challenges related to application-support will be presented with a focus on scalability and licensing issues. This includes the role of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and service-providers giving support for open-source applications.
Some aspects of service-management and governance-models will conclude the contribution.
