Abstract:   R, an open source software environment for data analytics, has become popular in many fields, drawing power from its high-level expressiveness and numerous domain-specific packages. It is clearly a “high productivity” language but it is not known as a “high performance” language. Recent efforts have adapted R to a variety of HPC technologies, such as multicore and cluster support, optimization for emerging hardware (e.g., Intel Xeon Phi), and new parallel programming infrastructure (pbdR). Short presentations describing R support and experiences on large platforms in data-intensive computing will be followed by a discussion with the audience to share their experiences and needs. The goal is to build an international community of users, developers, and experts interested in the use of R on HPC resources. Tangible outcomes of this BOF will be aggregated in a discussion group that will include the presentations and notes from the session and serve as a focal point for the community.

Targeted Audience
Developers, users, and service providers who are interested in empowering R for data intensive problems on high performance computing resources.
