Abstract:   The session “Cloud & Big Data: Examples from Industry” focuses on success stories that demonstrate the impact of dedicated solution related to cloud architecture and big data toward accelerated innovation. The first presentation from STFC´s Hartree Centre concentrate on experiences associated to the development of workflows that enable scientists and engineers to take advantage of HPC and cloud architectures for the exploration of their big data even if they non-expert in HPC or cloud computing. Following these lines the second talk from CST will present a platform which allows engineers and scientists to choose the most appropriate methods for the design and optimization of electromagnetic devices. In that context a versatile cloud based platform for simulation services is presented. The treatment of massive data streams associated to business scenarios will be object of the third talk given by SAP. The proposed solutions are not only used to optimize business reactiveness in real-time but also used to create new services based on the instant availability of information. The ability to elastically cope with different workloads, both, private and public cloud architectures will be addressed in more details in the last talk given by IBM. This talk will give an overview of several scenarios which allow to become highly productive big data users by leveraging a sophisticated but easy to use tool set.
